Family Holiday in Turkey

Turkey is one of the easiest destinations for a family holiday: a straightforward flight, all-inclusive, kids' clubs and gently sloping beaches. Here's how to pick a resort and hotel for your children's ages.

A holiday with children calls for a different approach to choosing a hotel than a trip for two. A beautiful view takes a back seat, while the beach, pools, food and distance from the airport come first. Turkey’s strength is that along its coast you can find an option for almost any child’s age and family budget.

Which Resort to Choose

Belek

A resort with long sandy beaches and large hotels with spacious grounds. There are many family hotels with water parks, kids’ clubs and entertainment. The transfer from Antalya airport is relatively short.

Lara

The urban part of Antalya, with sandy beaches and big hotels. It’s close to the airport, which is convenient with little ones, and you can easily go into the city or to a water park.

Side

Sandy beaches, shallow water near the shore and a historic centre with ancient ruins that’s lovely for an evening stroll. A good balance between hotel time and exploring.

Kemer

Pine forests, mountains and clear sea, but the beaches are mostly pebbly. It suits families with school-age children who love swimming and excursions.

Alanya

Alanya is further from the airport, but it has many hotels across different price ranges and sandy beaches. It suits families who like being able to head into town.

What to Check in a Hotel

  • Beach. Sand or pebbles, whether the entry is gentle, whether there’s a pier and how far it is from your room.
  • Pools. A kids’ pool, slides, heating at the start and end of the season.
  • Kids’ club. The minimum age and whether there’s a Russian-language programme.
  • Rooms. Family rooms with two bedrooms or a connecting door are handy when the child goes to bed earlier than the parents.
  • Food. A children’s menu, the option to heat food, high chairs in the restaurant.
  • Baby essentials. A cot, stroller or baby bath sometimes need to be requested in advance.

When to Go

With little ones, early or late summer is best: June or September. The sea is already warm and the sun isn’t as harsh as in July. If your trip is tied to school holidays, book early: family rooms in popular hotels sell out first.

Food and All-Inclusive

Most families choose all-inclusive: there’s no need to think about where to feed the children, and drinks and snacks are available all day. But hotel restaurants differ: some have a separate kids’ buffet line, others only the main buffet. Ask the manager about this in advance.

Flights and Transfers

For children, the whole journey counts: the flight, waiting for luggage and the transfer. A private transfer costs more than a shared one but saves time and energy, especially at night. Our manager will find flight options from Tashkent, both direct and with connections, for your dates.

What to Pack

A first-aid kit with your children’s usual medicines, high-SPF sunscreen, a sun hat, swimming armbands or a vest and a favourite toy for the journey. And be sure to get insurance for every family member.

Combining the Beach with Sightseeing

With school-age children you can add a couple of days in Istanbul or Cappadocia to your beach time. Children usually love a hot-air balloon flight (subject to age limits), the aquarium and boat trips.

Teenagers

With teenagers, the key is making sure the holiday isn’t boring. Look for hotels with water slides, sports grounds and teen programmes, or choose resorts where you can go out in town in the evening. Many teenagers enjoy rafting, beginner diving and jeep safaris, but always check the age limits with the organisers.

How Many Nights to Book

Children need a few days to adjust to the new climate and routine. That’s why we usually recommend 7–10 nights or more for families, so the first days of adjustment don’t take up the whole holiday.
