Winter in Tashkent is cold, yet many countries are at the peak of their beach season. We compare destinations by sea temperature, travel time and holiday style.

A winter holiday by the sea is one of the most popular trips for people in Uzbekistan. There’s plenty of choice, but destinations differ a lot: in some places the sea in January is as warm as a bath, in others it’s refreshing, and elsewhere it’s sunny but windy. Let’s go through them one by one.
In winter Phuket, Krabi and Pattaya are in their dry season: calm sea, sunshine and boat trips to the islands. It’s one of the top winter destinations. Koh Samui can still see rain in early winter, but the weather settles by February. More detail in our guide on the best time to visit Thailand.
For winter, head to the south of the country: Phu Quoc is dry and sunny at this time. Save Nha Trang for spring and summer, as early winter there is still the rainy season.
The dry season starts in December, with perfect underwater visibility. It’s the most expensive option, but also the most peaceful for a couple or a family looking for quiet.
In winter the south-west and south coasts are at their best. Sri Lanka makes it easy to add tea plantations, ancient cities and a national park safari to your beach time.
Winter is the rainy season in Bali, but many people still go: downpours are often short and there are fewer crowds. In Malaysia, choose the west coast in winter, for example Langkawi.
A short flight, excellent service and lots to do. The air is comfortable in winter, but the sea is cooler than in the tropics. A good fit if you want to combine the beach, sightseeing and shopping.
Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada offer coral reefs and snorkelling right off the shore. Winter days are warm, but evenings and windy days can be cool, and the water is fresh. Ideal for those who care more about the underwater world than the heat.
Flights to the tropics are long, sometimes with a connection, so plan 9–14 nights there. For the UAE and Egypt, 5–7 nights is enough. Our manager will find flight options from Tashkent, both direct and with connections.
Children find long journeys and climate changes harder. For little ones, we usually recommend destinations with a shorter flight and convenient departure times. School-age children will enjoy faraway countries more, but in that case plan the trip during the school holidays with a few extra days to adjust. When choosing a hotel, look for heated pools and kids’ clubs.
Combined itineraries work well in winter: Bangkok and the islands, Sri Lanka with a trip to the hills, Dubai with a day in Abu Dhabi. Travelling within the country adds to the experience but takes time, so allow at least two weeks for such a route.
Prices peak over New Year and Chinese New Year, when demand rises across Asia. More affordable options are usually found in the first half of December and from late January to February. If your dates are flexible, tell the manager: that makes it easier to find a good deal.

For a 5–7 day holiday, destinations with a shorter flight, such as the UAE or Egypt, are more convenient. Thailand and the Maldives are best for at least a week.
Families often choose the UAE for its short flight and entertainment, as well as Phu Quoc and Thailand if the children cope well with a long journey.
