Who Phu Quoc suits

People choose Phu Quoc for its beaches, a warm sea in winter and a resort setting with big hotels and theme parks. It is a convenient option for families with kids: lots of hotels with pools, shallow water at many beaches and attractions in the south and north of the island. Couples come for the sunsets and the calm.

The island is developing fast, so you will find large resort complexes next to quiet beaches. If city life and sightseeing matter to you, combine Phu Quoc with the mainland, for example with Hanoi or Nha Trang.

Season

The dry season lasts from November to April. It is the best time for a beach holiday: the west coast is calm and the water is clear. December to February is peak demand, and hotels for the New Year holidays are booked well in advance.

From May to October comes the rainy season. Downpours usually hit in the afternoon, but the west can get waves and debris on the beaches after storms. At this time it is better to stay on the east coast. Seasons differ across the regions of Vietnam, so the island combines easily with other parts of the country.

Areas and beaches

Long Beach and Duong Dong. The west coast by the island’s main town. Lots of hotels and restaurants, the night market nearby and beautiful sunsets. Convenient for a first visit.

Ong Lang. A quiet bay further north with small hotels among the greenery, for a relaxed holiday.

Bai Sao and Bai Kem. The south-east, with white sand and turquoise water. People come for the day or stay at nearby hotels.

An Thoi and the south. The area with the cable car, a water park and new resorts.

The north of the island. Large resort complexes, a safari park and a theme park. Convenient for families with kids, but far from town.

What to see and do

The An Thoi islands

A cable car over the sea takes you to Hon Thom island with a water park and beaches. Boat trips around the archipelago with snorkelling are among the best sea excursions on the island.

Nature

The national park in the north with tropical forest and trails. Waterfalls in the rainy season, pepper plantations and pearl farms. Fishing villages with houses on stilts.

Food and markets

The Duong Dong night market with seafood, local fish sauce factories and cafes serving Vietnamese coffee. Try pho, spring rolls, sea urchins and local fruit.

For kids

A safari park, a theme park, water parks and entertainment complexes in the north and south of the island.

How many days

Nine to twelve nights is ideal, given the flight time. That leaves room for the beach, an island-hopping trip, a day at the parks and time to relax without rushing.

Sample 10-night itinerary

The first three days: Long Beach and the sunsets. Day four: the cable car and the An Thoi islands with snorkelling. Day five: Bai Sao and Bai Kem in the south-east. Days six and seven: beach and pool. Day eight: the north, with the national park, or the safari park if you have kids. Day nine: the night market and pepper plantations. Keep day ten for rest and packing. This pace isn’t tiring and lets you see the whole island.

Good to know

Flights from Tashkent: our manager will find direct and connecting options. The visa rules depend on your route: special conditions apply if you fly straight to the island, while visiting the mainland requires a regular visa. More in our guide to the Vietnam visa.

The island is large and the distances between north and south are considerable, so keep this in mind when choosing a hotel. Taxi apps are the easiest way to get around. Medical insurance is mandatory. The sun is strong, especially in the dry season.

If you plan to combine the island with the mainland, work out the order of your route in advance: it determines which visa you need. Domestic flights between Phu Quoc, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi are frequent, but fares rise quickly over the holidays. Cash in dong comes in handy at markets and small cafes.

Rules are given as of October 2026 and may change: check with our manager or the official embassy website before you travel.
