Who Thailand is for

People choose Thailand when they want a real tropical sea in winter. It suits couples, groups of friends and families with older children: there is plenty to do, cheap food on every corner and a wide choice of accommodation, from beach bungalows to villas with a pool. Many stay for two or three weeks, combining a holiday with remote work.

Thailand is possible with small children too, but keep in mind the long flight with a connection, and choose quiet areas with a gentle entry into the sea.

Seasons: when to go

Thailand has two coasts with different climates. On the Andaman Sea, home to Phuket, Krabi and Phi Phi, the dry season runs roughly from November to April, with a calm sea and sunshine. From May to October it rains more often and there are waves, and swimming at some beaches is dangerous.

The Gulf of Thailand, with Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, runs on a different schedule: the good season is January to August, with rain in autumn. Bangkok and Pattaya are most comfortable from November to February. Month-by-month details are in our guide on the best time to visit Thailand.

Resorts and regions

Phuket

Phuket is the country’s largest island. Kata and Karon suit families, Patong is for nightlife, and Bang Tao and Nai Harn are for a quiet holiday. From Phuket people visit the Phi Phi Islands, the Similans and Phang Nga Bay.

Koh Samui

Koh Samui is a green island with palm trees and a relaxed atmosphere. Chaweng is lively, while Lamai and Bophut are quieter. A big plus: the good season here is in summer, when Phuket gets rain.

Bangkok

Bangkok is the capital, with the Grand Palace, the Wat Pho and Wat Arun temples, night markets and malls. It is often added for 2–3 days at the start or end of a trip.

Pattaya and Krabi

Pattaya, two hours from Bangkok, is a resort with lots of entertainment and Koh Larn island. Krabi has cliffs above the sea, Railay Beach and the islands of Koh Lanta and Hong, a place for those who want nature.

What to see

  • The temples of Bangkok and a trip along the Chao Phraya River.
  • Phang Nga Bay and James Bond Island.
  • Ang Thong Marine Park near Koh Samui.
  • Elephant sanctuaries that don’t offer elephant rides.
  • Floating markets and the ancient capital of Ayutthaya.

Where to stay and how to get around

Hotels in Thailand vary enormously, from chain resorts with their own beach to small boutique hotels in the jungle. Beaches in Thailand are public, so first-line hotels don’t give exclusive access to the sea, but they do make things convenient. Families are usually better off with breakfast or half board, since it is nice to have dinner at local cafés in the evening.

Ferries and domestic flights connect the islands, and on the islands it is easy to get around by taxi through apps. Renting a scooter is popular, but without the right licence category it puts both your health and your insurance at risk. Try the local food: tom yum, pad thai, mango with sticky rice.

How many days to plan

The flight from Tashkent usually takes most of the day, so plan at least 10 nights. The classic 12–14 night plan: 3 days in Bangkok and 9–10 days on one island. If you want two islands, allow a day for the transfer.

Entry and practical tips

Thailand’s entry rules for citizens of Uzbekistan have changed several times, so check them before every trip; there is a detailed breakdown in our Thailand visa guide. Your passport must be valid well beyond your trip, and at the border you may be asked for a return ticket and a hotel booking. Be sure to take out insurance that covers active pursuits if you plan to ride a scooter, dive or trek.

Rules are given as of October 2026 and may change: check with our manager or the official embassy website before you travel.

FAQ

Do citizens of Uzbekistan need a visa for Thailand?

Thailand's entry rules for citizens of Uzbekistan have changed several times in recent years, including the length of visa-free stays. Our manager will check the current procedure for your dates, and the main options are covered in our Thailand visa guide.

When is the rainy season in Thailand?

In Phuket and Krabi the rainy season runs roughly from May to October, while on Koh Samui most of the rain falls from October to December. So in summer it is better to go to Samui, and in winter to the Andaman coast.

Which is better for a first trip: Phuket or Pattaya?

Phuket offers beautiful beaches, boat trips and different areas to suit any holiday style. Pattaya is closer to Bangkok and easier logistically, and while the sea there is not as good, there is lots of entertainment and shopping.

How many days do I need for Thailand?

Because of the long flight, it isn't worth taking fewer than 10 nights. 10–14 nights is ideal, and if you want to combine two islands and Bangkok, plan two weeks.
