Thailand's largest island, with dozens of beaches for every taste, boat trips to nearby islands and Thai food on every corner. A popular choice for a winter beach holiday.

November to April is the dry season; May to October is the rainy season
highlights
Phuket appeals to anyone who wants a tropical sea without giving up comfort. The island has large hotels, supermarkets, international hospitals and good roads. Families, couples, groups of friends and people staying a month or longer all find something that works for them.
The island is big, and your choice of beach shapes the whole holiday. The same Phuket can be loud and party-focused in Patong or quiet and almost secluded in Mai Khao. If you want a more intimate island, take a look at Koh Samui.
The dry season runs from November to April. Skies are clear, the sea is calm and boats to the islands run without cancellations. Demand peaks over the New Year holidays, when hotels are booked months ahead.
From May to October it is the rainy season on the Andaman Sea. Downpours are usually short, but waves build up on the west coast beaches, swimming can be dangerous and some boat routes are cancelled. On the plus side, prices are lower and there are fewer tourists. A month-by-month breakdown is in our guide on when to go to Thailand.
Patong. The liveliest beach, with nightlife, markets and malls. For those who want fun, but not for a quiet family holiday.
Karon and Kata. Wide beaches, calmer than Patong, with plenty of restaurants and shops. A good middle ground for families and couples.
Kamala. A small village with an unhurried feel, convenient for families.
Bang Tao and Laguna. A long beach in the west with resort complexes around lagoons. Quiet and spacious, with good amenities.
Nai Harn and Rawai. The south of the island: Nai Harn has a beautiful beach, Rawai has seafood restaurants and a boat pier.
Mai Khao and Nai Yang. The north, close to the airport, with quiet beaches in a national park.
Phi Phi with Maya Bay, Phang Nga Bay with its limestone cliffs and James Bond Island, and the Similan Islands when they are open for the season. Trips run by speedboat or on larger boats, and the difference in time and comfort is noticeable.
The Big Buddha on a hill overlooking the south of the island. Phuket Old Town with Sino-Portuguese houses, cafés and a Sunday street market. The Promthep Cape viewpoint at sunset.
Thai massage, cooking classes, night markets and seafood in Rawai. For children: water parks, an aquarium and elephant sanctuaries that offer ethical visits.
10–14 nights is ideal. You can split the holiday: a few days in Bangkok and most of the time by the sea. Many people combine Phuket with Krabi or other Andaman Sea islands.
The first three days: the beach and recovering from the flight and time difference. On day four, head to Phi Phi. Day five: Phuket Old Town and the Big Buddha. Days six and seven: back to the sea. Day eight: Phang Nga Bay by boat or canoe. Spend the last days on massages, markets and sunsets at Promthep Cape. It is best to leave a free day between excursions, as the tropical heat tires you out faster than you think.
Flights from Tashkent: our manager will find direct and connecting options. Entry rules for citizens of Uzbekistan have changed in recent years, so check them before you travel.
Be sure to take out insurance: medical care for tourists is paid and expensive. Don’t ride a scooter without a licence and a helmet. The sun is very strong, and in the rainy season watch for red flags on the beach: they mean dangerous currents.
For trips to Phi Phi and Phang Nga, choose excursions with a clear programme: travel time, number of stops and what is included in the price. National parks charge separate entrance fees, often paid in cash on the spot. The exchange rate at the airport is usually worse than in town, so only change a small amount there for your first expenses.
Rules are given as of October 2026 and may change: check with our manager or the official embassy website before you travel.

November to April: dry weather, a calm sea and boat trips running on schedule. From May to October it rains and the west coast beaches can get big waves, but prices are lower.
Families usually like Kata, Karon, Kamala and Nai Harn: easy entry into the water and a relaxed atmosphere. Patong is too noisy for a holiday with young children.
Given the long flight, anything under 9–10 nights rarely pays off. 10–14 nights is ideal, leaving enough time for the beach, the islands and an unhurried break.
Thailand's entry rules have changed several times in recent years, so check them before every trip. See our Thailand visa guide for details, and our manager will confirm the current procedure.

Thailand's capital is a loud, hot and incredibly tasty megacity. Golden temples stand next to skyscrapers, and the best food is often sold on the street.
