Who Cyprus is for

Cyprus is chosen by families with children, couples and older travellers who want a relaxed beach holiday in Europe. The island is small, English is widely spoken, and the resorts are easy to navigate and safe. Many people come not only in summer but also in the velvet season, when the rest of Europe has already turned cool.

Cyprus also appeals to those who don’t want to just lie by the pool: ancient cities, Byzantine monasteries in the mountains, wine villages and caves can all be seen on a few drives.

Seasons: when to go

The beach season runs from May to October. July and August are hot, with temperatures easily topping 35 degrees, especially in Nicosia. June, September and October are considered the best months: the sea is warm and the heat eases. Holiday options for these months are in where to go in autumn.

In winter Cyprus is too cool for the beach but sunny, good for walks and sightseeing. Snow sometimes falls in the Troodos mountains.

Resorts and regions

Limassol

Limassol is the island’s second city, with a long seafront, a marina, an old town and a castle. It suits those who want a city atmosphere, restaurants and evening walks. The beaches here are mostly dark sand and pebbles.

Ayia Napa and Protaras

The eastern part of the island has the best sandy beaches: Nissi, Makronissos and Fig Tree Bay. Ayia Napa is livelier and aimed at young people, while Protaras is quieter and better for families. Nearby is Cape Greco with its sea caves.

Paphos

A town in the west with an archaeological park, mosaics from Roman villas, the Tombs of the Kings and Aphrodite’s Rock on the way to Limassol. The atmosphere is calm, suiting couples and history lovers.

Larnaca

A town by the airport with the Finikoudes seafront, the Church of St. Lazarus and a salt lake where flamingos gather in winter. Convenient for a short break.

The Troodos mountains

The villages of Omodos and Lefkara, Kykkos Monastery, waterfalls and wineries. It is cooler here in summer, and the trip takes a full day.

What to see

  • The Paphos mosaics and the Tombs of the Kings.
  • Aphrodite’s Rock at sunset.
  • Cape Greco and the sea caves.
  • Kykkos Monastery in the mountains.
  • Ancient Kourion above the sea.

Food and local life

Cypriot food blends Greek and Middle Eastern traditions. Be sure to try meze, a big dinner made of many small dishes, grilled halloumi, souvlaki and kleftiko, lamb baked in a clay oven. The mountain villages of Troodos make Commandaria wine and grape-based sweets.

The island is small, but public transport between resorts isn’t very convenient, so many people rent a car. Remember that traffic drives on the left. Shops in small towns may close for an afternoon break, and some places are closed on Sundays.

How many days to plan

A beach holiday takes 7–10 nights. If you want to explore the island, take 10 days and rent a car; traffic in Cyprus drives on the left. Cyprus is sometimes combined with Greece, but the two countries have different visa rules, which you need to factor into your plans.

Entry and practical tips

Citizens of Uzbekistan need a visa to travel to Cyprus. Cyprus is not in the Schengen area and issues its own visas, and the rules on entry with valid Schengen visas have changed from time to time. If you are unsure which document you need, see our guide on how to find out if you need a visa or ask our manager.

The island is divided: the northern part is not controlled by the Republic of Cyprus, and crossing the dividing line has its own rules.

Rules are given as of October 2026 and may change: check with our manager or the official embassy website before you travel.

Flights from Tashkent to Larnaca or Paphos: our manager will find direct and connecting options.
