Limassol: seafront, marina and the Cyprus coast

Limassol is the second-largest city in Cyprus and one of the island's main resorts. It has a long seafront promenade, a modern marina, an old town and beaches running the whole length of the coast.

Who Limassol suits

Limassol works well for families with children, couples and anyone who wants to combine the beach with city life. Unlike enclosed resort villages, here you can swim by your hotel in the morning and in the evening stroll along the seafront to the marina or have dinner in the old town. Many travellers from Uzbekistan pick Cyprus as an alternative to Turkey: similar food, a warm sea and short distances, but a different, European feel.

People in Cyprus speak Greek and English, and Limassol has a large Russian-speaking community, so communicating in restaurants and shops is usually easy.

When to go

The beach season is long: May to October, and in warm years people still swim in early November. June and September are the most comfortable months. July and August are very hot, so spend the middle of the day by the pool and head out on excursions early in the morning.

October is a strong case if you are deciding where to go in autumn for a warm sea in Europe. In spring the orchards bloom in the Troodos Mountains, a good time to tour the island without the heat. Winters are mild but rainy, and swimming is limited to heated pools.

Where to stay

Tourist area (eastern coast)

A strip of hotels along the sea east of the centre, with beaches, restaurants and a promenade for walks. The most popular choice for a seaside holiday.

Germasogeia

An extension of the tourist area, known for family hotels and wide beaches. Convenient for kids: many stretches have a gentle entry into the water.

Centre and old town

Limassol Castle, lanes lined with tavernas, the Molos promenade and the marina. Best for those who want to stay in the city and get around on foot.

Resort hotels to the west and outside town

Upscale hotels with private beaches and plenty of quiet. Good for couples and an unhurried break, but you will need a car or taxi to reach the centre.

What to see

  • Molos promenade and Limassol Marina. A seaside walk past a sculpture park and yachts.
  • Old town and Limassol Castle. A medieval fortress with a museum.
  • Kourion. An ancient city with a theatre and mosaics on a cliff above the sea.
  • Kolossi Castle. A Crusader fortress tied to the history of Cypriot wine.
  • Aphrodite’s Rock (Petra tou Romiou). The legendary birthplace of the goddess, on the road to Paphos.
  • Troodos Mountains. Villages, painted Byzantine churches protected by UNESCO, Kykkos Monastery and cool air in summer.
  • Paphos. An archaeological park with mosaics and the Tombs of the Kings.
  • Nicosia. The capital, ringed by Venetian walls.

How many days to plan

  • 7–8 days: beach time plus Kourion, Paphos and the mountains.
  • 10–14 days: a relaxed holiday with trips across the island, including Ayia Napa in the east.
  • For a similar Mediterranean break on a Greek island, compare it with Crete.

Good to know

Flights from Tashkent: our manager will find direct and connecting options. The island’s airports are Larnaca and Paphos, and both are an easy transfer to Limassol.

Cyprus drives on the left, which matters if you plan to rent a car. The sun is very strong: with children, choose hotels with shade by the pool and plan some downtime in your room in the middle of the day. Families who have holidayed in Turkey before will find many tips from our guide to family holidays in Turkey useful here too.

Cyprus issues its own visas and is not fully part of the Schengen Area. Rules are given as of October 2026 and may change: check with our manager or the official embassy website before you travel.

Food and evenings

Cypriot cuisine means meze: dozens of small dishes arrive one after another, from hummus and tahini to halloumi, fish and grilled meat. Meze is ordered for the whole table and eaten slowly, so dinner can take the entire evening. Fish meze is a good option for those who avoid pork. Limassol has plenty of restaurants around the marina and in the old town, and in summer the city hosts open-air festivals. People dine late in summer, once the heat eases.
