Who Georgia is for

Georgia is one of the easiest destinations for short trips from Uzbekistan. Couples come for the weekend, groups of friends for the food and wine, and families with children for the sea in summer. Older travellers appreciate Georgia because it is easy to get by in Russian and there is little to get used to.

The country also suits fans of active holidays: mountain trekking, rafting and skiing. In one trip you can see glaciers, vineyards and a subtropical coast.

Seasons: when to go

The best time for sightseeing is May, June, September and October. In spring the mountains are green, and in autumn Kakheti harvests its grapes, which is the most atmospheric time to visit the wine region. Summer in Tbilisi is hot, but the high mountain roads to Svaneti and Tusheti are open.

The beach season in Batumi runs from late June to late September, and the ski resorts open in winter. If you are choosing between spring and autumn, see our selections of where to go in spring and where to go in autumn.

Regions

Tbilisi

Tbilisi is a city you can explore for days: the old town with its balconies, Narikala Fortress, the Abanotubani sulphur baths, Fabrika and the Dezerter Bazaar. It is also a handy base for day trips.

Batumi and Adjara

Batumi is a seaside resort with a boulevard, a botanical garden and modern hotels. The beaches are pebbly. Nearby are Gonio with its ancient fortress and mountainous Adjara with waterfalls and Queen Tamar’s bridges.

Kazbegi

Stepantsminda at the foot of Mount Kazbek is Georgia’s most recognisable spot: Gergeti Church on a hill against the backdrop of a glacier. The way there follows the Georgian Military Road past Ananuri Fortress and Gudauri.

Kakheti

The wine region east of Tbilisi: Sighnaghi, the “city of love”, Bodbe Monastery, Alaverdi and family wineries with tastings. It is good for a day trip or an overnight stay.

Svaneti and Imereti

Svaneti, with the towers of Mestia, is for those ready for a long drive. Kutaisi and the area around it offer the Martvili and Okatse canyons and Prometheus Cave.

What to see

  • Mtskheta, the ancient capital, and Jvari Monastery.
  • Gergeti Church in Kazbegi.
  • The wineries of Kakheti and Sighnaghi.
  • The cave city of Vardzia.
  • The Martvili canyons and Prometheus Cave near Kutaisi.

Georgian food and hospitality

Food is a big part of the trip. Khinkali, Adjarian and Megrelian khachapuri, lobio, pkhali, mtsvadi: the list goes on. Tbilisi has restaurants for every budget, and in the regions you can have lunch at family guesthouses where the hosts do the cooking.

Georgians are hospitable, and sometimes a meal turns into an event of its own with toasts and songs. If you don’t drink alcohol, just say so: restaurants always have lemonades, kompot and mineral water. There is halal food in Tbilisi and Batumi too, and our manager can recommend specific places.

How many days to plan

For a first visit, a week: 3–4 days in Tbilisi with trips to Mtskheta and Kakheti, a day in Kazbegi and, in summer, 2–3 days in Batumi. For a long weekend, Tbilisi with one trip out of the city is enough. You can see a ready-made programme on our Georgia tour page.

Entry and practical tips

Citizens of Uzbekistan enter Georgia visa-free for tourist trips. Your passport must be valid for the whole trip, and it is worth taking out insurance anyway, as anything can happen in the mountains and on the roads. If you are driving on mountain roads, keep in mind that passes can close in winter.

Rules are given as of October 2026 and may change: check with our manager or the official embassy website before you travel.

Flights from Tashkent to Tbilisi or Batumi: our manager will find direct and connecting options.
