Spring is the best season for city breaks: warm but not hot, everything in bloom and fewer tourists than in summer. Here are our picks for March, April and May.

highlights
After winter you want a change of scene, and in many countries spring weather is perfect for exploring on foot. It’s the time to see gardens in bloom, catch the sea before the real heat arrives and discover cities without the summer queues.
Late March marks the start of cherry blossom season. Japan is especially beautiful at this time, with parks, temples and riversides covered in flowers. It’s a very popular period, so hotels in Tokyo and Kyoto are booked well in advance. The exact bloom dates vary from year to year.
March is one of the best times for a beach holiday in the Emirates: it’s warm, the sea is heating up and you can still walk around during the day. Egypt gets pleasant too, especially towards the end of the month.
The dry season is still on, while Thailand gradually gets hotter.
Cherry blossoms in Seoul bloom in early April. Spring is a popular time to visit Korea, so plan around the visa, which citizens of Uzbekistan need to get in advance.
In April the parks of Istanbul host a tulip festival, and the weather is right for long walks. It works well for 4–5 days or as part of a Turkey itinerary with Cappadocia.
Rome, Paris, Barcelona and Prague are warm in April and not yet overrun with tourists. Hotel prices are usually lower than in summer, except over Easter. For route ideas, see our guide to sightseeing tours of Europe.
In spring the gardens of Tbilisi are in bloom and the old town is lovely to wander. You can add day trips to Kakheti and Mtskheta.
The beach season opens in May. The air is warm, but the sea is still refreshing early in the month, which makes May a good time to combine the beach with sightseeing.
The season is just starting: nature is green, there are few tourists, and the weather lets you both explore and sunbathe. By the end of the month swimming is pleasant, though the water is still cool.
Nha Trang is at its best in May. It’s sunny and the sea is calm.
Spring is full of holidays: Navruz, the May long weekends and, in some years, Ramadan and the Eid that follows it. Demand for flights and hotels rises on these dates. If your holiday falls on a public holiday, book early.
For Japan, Korea and Europe, allow time for the visa. Depending on the destination, the flight from Tashkent may be direct or involve a connection; our manager will find the options.
Spring brings plenty of long weekends, and they’re perfect for short getaways. Go for destinations with a short flight and a packed programme: Istanbul, Tbilisi, Baku, Dubai. In a few days you can see the main sights, try the local food and come back rested. Flight times matter for trips like these: a morning departure and an evening return give you more time on the ground.
The spring school break is a good reason for a family trip. The UAE, Egypt, Thailand or Turkey at the end of spring all work well. If your child is interested in history and culture, consider Istanbul or Cappadocia.
Cherry blossom season in Japan and Korea is one of the busiest periods of the year, and hotels in Tokyo, Kyoto and Seoul are booked months ahead. For Europe in spring, factor in visa processing times. Beach destinations over the spring break are also best booked early.

In March and April the UAE, Egypt, Thailand and the Maldives are good choices. The season in Turkey opens in May, although the sea is still cool at the start of the month.
Usually in late March and early April, but the exact dates depend on the year and the region. Blossoms appear earlier in the south of the country and later in the north.
For a short May break, Istanbul, Tbilisi, Baku and the UAE are convenient. With a longer holiday you can consider Europe or the start of the beach season in Turkey.
Yes, spring is one of the best times for Europe: warm enough for walking and fewer tourists than in summer. Just start your Schengen visa application early.

Japan is a dream trip for many: the ancient temples of Kyoto and neon Tokyo, Mount Fuji, onsen hot springs and food worth flying halfway around the world for.

Seoul combines royal palaces and old quarters with neon-lit districts, Korean cosmetics and endless street food. The city is safe, has an easy metro and is simple to explore on your own.

A city on two continents where in one day you can walk through Byzantine churches, cross the Bosphorus and have dinner on the Asian side. Great for a short break, shopping and a first trip abroad.

Europe is perfect for anyone who loves cities, museums, architecture and food. Here is how to plan a route that lets you see a lot without wearing yourself out.
