Malé is the capital of the Maldives and the starting point for any trip to the islands. Speedboats and seaplanes leave from here for resorts and local islands.

December to April is the dry season; May to November brings rain and lower prices
highlights
The Maldives is for people who want a pure beach holiday: white sand, a turquoise lagoon and a reef full of fish a few metres from the shore. It is one of the most popular honeymoon destinations; read more in our guide on where to go for your honeymoon.
Families with children choose the Maldives too, looking for islands with kids’ clubs and a calm lagoon. Travellers who get restless without excursions and cities may find it dull: entertainment here is mostly about the sea.
The capital sits on a small, densely built island. It has the Friday Mosque built from coral stone, fish and vegetable markets, a waterfront and an artificial beach. A few hours are enough to walk around the city.
Most travellers don’t stay in Malé and head straight to their resort. The airport is on the neighbouring island of Hulhulé, and transfers to the resort islands start right there. Sometimes you have to spend a night near the airport if you land late, since seaplanes don’t fly after dark.
The dry season runs from December to April: sunny weather, calm seas and good underwater visibility. This is the most sought-after time, and the best islands get booked very early for the New Year holidays.
From May to November the southwest monsoon brings more rain and wind, though there are plenty of sunny days too. Prices are lower in this period. For a month-by-month breakdown, see our guide on when to go to the Maldives.
One island, one hotel. Everything happens on site: beach, restaurants, spa and dive centre. Resorts differ in standard, size, whether they have a house reef and how well they cater for children. Villas are either on the beach or over the water.
Islands where Maldivians live have guesthouses and small hotels. This is the budget option: meals in cafés, boat trips to reefs and sandbanks. But local rules apply: modest clothing outside the tourist beach, and no alcohol.
North and South Malé atolls are closest to the airport and reached by speedboat. Ari and Baa are known for encounters with whale sharks and manta rays, and are more often reached by seaplane. The farther the atoll, the more expensive the transfer.
Snorkelling on the hotel’s house reef, diving, sunset fishing, a trip to a sandbank, dinner on the beach, the spa. Boat excursions to see dolphins, turtles and mantas. Many resorts also run trips to a local island.
7–10 nights is ideal. Some travellers split the trip between two islands: a few nights in a beach villa and a few over the water or on another atoll.
The first day goes on travel and the transfer, so simply relax once you have checked in. Days two to four: snorkelling on the house reef, the beach and the spa. On day five, take a boat trip to see mantas or dolphins. Day six: a sandbank picnic or sunset fishing. Keep day seven free. If your return transfer is early, it is sometimes easier to spend the last night near the airport.
Flights from Tashkent: our manager will find direct and connecting options. Your arrival time matters for the transfer, as seaplanes only fly in daylight.
Compare not just the room rate but also the meal plan, the transfer type and taxes, which in the Maldives are often added on top. Bring a mask and reef-safe sunscreen. Taking coral or shells out of the country is not allowed.
Resorts often have a dress code for dinner in their restaurants: trousers and closed shoes for men. Wi-Fi is available on almost every island, though speeds can be slower in villas on remote atolls. It is best to choose your meal plan in advance: on an isolated island there is no alternative to the hotel restaurants, and adding meals on the spot costs more.
Rules are given as of October 2026 and may change: check with our manager or the official embassy website before you travel.

The Maldives traditionally grants a tourist visa on arrival if you have a return ticket, an accommodation booking and sufficient funds. An online declaration is also completed before travel; our manager will walk you through it.
It depends on how far the island is: speedboats serve the nearby resorts, while distant ones are reached by seaplane or a domestic flight plus a boat. The type of transfer has a big impact on the total cost of the trip.
Yes, local islands have guesthouses and small hotels with noticeably lower prices than the resorts. But local rules apply there: bikinis only on a designated beach, and no alcohol.
Usually 7–10 nights. Anything under a week rarely pays off given the flight and transfers.

In the Maldives the whole world shrinks to one island: white sand, a lagoon, a reef and a villa by the water. The key is choosing the right hotel.
A honeymoon or a holiday when all you want is the sea. We’ll find an island to fit your budget: from a guesthouse on a local island to a villa at a resort.

The Maldives are warm all year round and the sea is always warm. The difference between seasons lies in rainfall, wind and prices, and it's worth understanding before you book a villa.

You want your honeymoon to be unforgettable, but the choice often comes down to the wedding date and the budget. Here are options for different seasons and travel styles.

The same hotel can be perfect for a young couple and inconvenient for a family with a toddler. Here is how to choose a hotel for your own trip rather than by other people's reviews.
