Who Hurghada suits

Hurghada is a classic Red Sea beach holiday. Families with kids choose it for the sandy beaches and gentle entry into the water, as do those who want to combine the sea with trips to Ancient Egypt. There are a great many hotels, from simple town hotels to large resort complexes with water parks.

Unlike in Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada’s reefs are mostly out at sea and reached by boat. On the other hand, it is easier for kids to swim right off the shore. The town has markets, waterfronts and restaurants, so you can get out of the hotel in the evening.

Season

The best times are October to November and March to May: warm, sunny and with a comfortable sea. Summer days are very hot, and the strong wind Hurghada is known for makes the heat bearable but whips up waves.

From December to February the days are warm, the evenings cool and the water cooler. It is a perfectly good time for poolside relaxing and excursions. If you are choosing an autumn destination, have a look at our roundup of where to go in autumn.

Areas

Hurghada, Dahar and Sekalla. The old centre with markets, mosques and affordable hotels. For those who want a town atmosphere.

Resort strip and the Marina. A long line of hotels along the coast and the Marina promenade with restaurants. Convenient for both the beach and walks.

Sahl Hasheesh. South of the city, a spacious bay with new hotels and a promenade with a colonnade. Good for a relaxed holiday.

Makadi Bay and Soma Bay. Further south, resort zones with large hotels and sandy beaches. The town is far away, so the holiday mostly happens at the hotel.

El Gouna. A separate resort town to the north, built on lagoons and canals. Lots of restaurants, a marina and kitesurfing. Suits couples and those who like an active holiday.

What to see and do

Islands and the sea

A boat trip to the Giftun or Mahmya islands, with white sand and snorkelling on the reefs, is the top activity. There are submarines and glass-bottom boats for those who don’t want to dive. There are plenty of dive centres, and you can start with a trial dive.

Ancient Egypt

Luxor, with the temples of Karnak and Luxor, the Valley of the Kings and the Colossi of Memnon, is the most packed excursion. A day trip is tiring; staying overnight is more comfortable. Cairo and the Giza pyramids are also possible, but better with a flight and a separate night.

Desert and outdoor activities

Quad bike or jeep safaris, dinner in a Bedouin village and stargazing. El Gouna and Soma Bay have good conditions for kitesurfing.

With kids

Hotel water parks and a separate large water park, a dolphinarium and boat trips with swimming stops. When choosing a hotel with a child, our guide on how to choose a hotel will help.

How many days

Seven to ten nights is the standard for a beach holiday. If you want Luxor with an overnight stay or Cairo, add 1–2 days.

A sample week in Hurghada

The first two days: the beach and getting to know the hotel. Day three: a boat trip to the Giftun islands with snorkelling. Days four and five: relaxing, with an evening at the Marina or in El Gouna. Day six: Luxor, leaving early in the morning for the Karnak temples and the Valley of the Kings, returning late in the evening. Keep day seven for recovering after the long excursion and packing before your flight.

Good to know

Flights from Tashkent: our manager will find direct and connecting options. Check Egypt’s entry rules for citizens of Uzbekistan before you travel.

Check what kind of beach your hotel has, sand or a reef with a pontoon, and whether it is sheltered from the wind. Bargaining is expected at the market. Drink bottled water and be careful with street food in the first few days. Sunscreen and a hat are needed even in winter.

Rules are given as of October 2026 and may change: check with our manager or the official embassy website before you travel.

FAQ

Where in Hurghada is there a gentle entry into the sea?

Sandy, gently sloping entries are most common in Makadi Bay, Sahl Hasheesh, El Gouna and at some hotels in Hurghada itself. Some hotels have reefs, and then you get into the water from a pontoon.

Can you visit the pyramids from Hurghada?

You can, but it is far: Cairo is several hours away by bus, or you can fly. Luxor with its temples and the Valley of the Kings is closer, visited as a day trip or with an overnight stay.

When is it cold in Hurghada?

From December to February the days are warm, but the evenings are fresh and the sea breeze makes it feel cooler. The water is bracing at this time, and many people swim in heated pools.

How many days should I spend in Hurghada?

Usually 7–10 nights. That is enough for the beach, a boat trip to the islands and one big excursion.
