Who Egypt is for

Egypt is the choice for those who want a warm sea in the off-season, when Turkey has already turned cold. It is a good destination for families, with plenty of all-inclusive hotels that have water parks and kids’ clubs. Snorkellers and divers come for the reefs, which are considered among the most beautiful in the world.

For anyone interested in history, Egypt means the pyramids, the temples of Luxor and Aswan and the tombs of the pharaohs. It is easy to combine the beach and sightseeing in one trip.

Seasons: when to go

The most comfortable time is spring and autumn. Summer on the coast is hot, but the dry air and the sea breeze are easier to bear than humid heat. In winter the days are around 22–25 degrees, the water is cooler and you’ll need a sweater in the evenings; Sharm El Sheikh is usually slightly warmer than Hurghada in winter.

Trips to Cairo and Luxor are best planned between October and April, as the Nile Valley is very hot in summer. Egyptian resorts are popular over the New Year holidays, so places for those dates go early. More winter ideas are in our selection of where to go for a winter beach holiday.

Resorts

Sharm El Sheikh

Sharm El Sheikh is on the Sinai Peninsula. The underwater world is the main attraction here: the bays of Ras Um Sid and Naama Bay, Ras Mohammed reserve and Tiran Island. At many hotels you enter the sea from a pontoon over the reef, so children and weaker swimmers should choose a hotel with a sandy lagoon.

Hurghada

Hurghada is a large resort on the African coast. The beaches are sandy, the entry into the water is gentle and there are hotels of every level. Nearby are El Gouna with its canals and lagoons, Sahl Hasheesh and Makadi Bay. To see the reefs, you take a boat to the Giftun Islands.

Marsa Alam

South of Hurghada lies quiet Marsa Alam, where people go for diving, turtles and dugongs. It suits those who don’t need evening entertainment.

What to see

  • The Giza pyramids and the Sphinx, and the Grand Egyptian Museum.
  • The Karnak and Luxor temples and the Valley of the Kings.
  • St. Catherine’s Monastery and sunrise on Mount Sinai.
  • The Coloured Canyon in Sinai.
  • Snorkelling on the reefs and a boat trip to the islands.

How to choose a hotel

In Egypt the hotel decides almost everything, because guests spend most of their time there. Look at the type of beach: sand with a gentle entry, a reef with a pontoon, or a lagoon. Check the distance to the sea, as many hotels in Hurghada are on the second line and you have to cross a road to reach the beach. Reviews of the food and cleanliness from the latest season matter too.

Families travelling in winter should look for hotels with a heated pool, because in the evening the sea and unheated pools are cool. Snorkellers should pick a hotel with its own reef so they don’t have to take a boat every day.

How many days to plan

A beach holiday takes 7–10 nights. If it is your first visit and you want to see the pyramids, set aside a day or two for Cairo. Luxor can be done as a day trip from Hurghada, but an overnight stay makes it more relaxed and lets you see the west bank of the Nile.

Entry and practical tips

The visa procedure for citizens of Uzbekistan depends on the current rules and your route, and conditions may differ for trips limited to Sinai. Our manager will check the current procedure before you travel. Your passport needs plenty of validity left.

Mind the reef rules: corals must not be touched or taken out of the country, and doing so can lead to a fine. Bring water shoes for snorkelling. Tipping is customary everywhere in Egypt, so keep some small notes handy.

Rules are given as of October 2026 and may change: check with our manager or the official embassy website before you travel.

FAQ

Do citizens of Uzbekistan need a visa for Egypt?

Entry rules for citizens of Uzbekistan depend on the current regulations and the resort, and separate conditions have historically applied to trips limited to Sinai. Our manager will confirm the visa type and fee for your route before booking.

Which is better: Sharm El Sheikh or Hurghada?

Sharm El Sheikh is better for snorkelling, as the reefs start right off the hotel pontoons. Hurghada has more sandy beaches with a gentle entry into the water, which is easier for children, and you take a boat to the islands to see the reefs.

Can I visit the pyramids from a resort?

Yes, one- or two-day excursions to Cairo run from Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh, and there are flights too. It is a long journey, so a day trip is best planned for the middle of your holiday rather than the last day.

How many days should I spend in Egypt?

For a beach holiday people usually take 7–10 nights. If you want to add Cairo or Luxor, plan another 2–3 days.
