Vietnam stretches from north to south, so in the same month Hanoi can be cool, Nha Trang rainy and Phu Quoc sunny. Here is where to go at different times of year.

highlights
Vietnam has become a popular alternative to Thailand for travelers from Uzbekistan: a warm sea, delicious food and interesting cities. But you need to plan a trip here with the region in mind, because the climate works differently in the north, center and south of the country.
The south of Vietnam is hot all year, with two seasons: dry and wet.
On Phu Quoc the dry season lasts roughly from November to April. The sea is calm, the sky is clear, and the beaches on the island’s west coast are especially good for sunsets. From May to October it rains more often and the sea on the west side gets murkier, but hotels are cheaper.
Phu Quoc is a frequent choice for a winter holiday from Tashkent. The island has everything for a family trip: theme parks, an aquarium and a cable car to the islands. Our website has a ready-made Phu Quoc tour idea you can use as a starting point.
The central coast follows its own calendar. The best time for Nha Trang is February to August: dry, with a calm sea and good visibility for snorkeling. Summer is hot, but that’s normal beach weather.
From October to December it’s the rainy season in the central provinces. Heavy downpours and typhoons are possible, affecting boat trips and even flights. It’s risky to go to the central coast in these months, especially with children.
Da Nang and Hoi An have a similar climate to Nha Trang, but the rainy season can start a little earlier.
Hanoi has four seasons. Spring (March–April) and autumn (October–November) are pleasant and warm, the best time for walking and a trip to Ha Long Bay. Summer is hot and humid, with downpours. Winter is cool, especially in December and January, and can be damp and foggy.
The north is good for those interested in culture, food and nature rather than the beach. There isn’t really a beach holiday here.
For a beach holiday at one resort, 8–10 nights. If you want to combine Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City with the sea, plan 11–14 days and factor in domestic flights between regions.
A manager will find direct and connecting flight options from Tashkent to Vietnam for your dates.
In almost any season Vietnam has high humidity and strong sun, so you’ll need light clothing, sunscreen and a hat. Before the trip, check the entry requirements for citizens of Uzbekistan: usually you need to get a visa for the trip.
The Vietnamese New Year, Tet, follows the lunar calendar and usually falls in late January or February. It’s the country’s biggest holiday: many Vietnamese travel to their families, some cafés and shops close for several days, and domestic flights and trains are full. For tourists it’s an interesting time with decorated streets, but plan a trip for these dates well in advance and bear in mind that not everything will be open.
For families with children we usually recommend Phu Quoc in winter and Nha Trang in summer. Couples and those who love cities and food will enjoy a spring route of Hanoi, Hoi An and the south.
In any season you’ll want a light raincoat, shoes you don’t mind getting wet and a sweater for the air conditioning on planes and buses. If you’re going north in winter, take a warm jacket: evenings in Hanoi and in the mountains can be cold.

In winter, Phu Quoc and the south are the usual choice for the beach: it's the dry season there and the sea is warm. In Nha Trang there can still be rain and waves in November and December.
The best time for Nha Trang is roughly February to August. From October to December it's the rainy season there, and the sea is often rough.
Hanoi can be cool and damp in winter, especially in December and January. Spring and autumn are more pleasant for exploring the city.
You can, but the weather will differ across the country. If you want both cities and the beach, the spring months suit best.

Vietnam is an affordable alternative to Thailand: the sea, islands, delicious food and a strong sightseeing programme, from Ha Long Bay to old Hoi An.

A tropical island in southern Vietnam with white beaches, night markets and a long cable car over the sea. A great winter beach option for families and couples.

A resort city on the South China Sea with a long beach right in the centre, islands in the bay and hot springs. A good fit if you want the sea and city life at the same time.

An ancient capital with lakes, the narrow streets of the Old Quarter and street food. From here you head to Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh and the mountains of Sapa.
