Doha: museums, desert and Qatar's modern architecture

Doha is Qatar's compact, calm capital, with strong museums, an old market and the sea right by the city. People visit for a short 3–5 day trip or as a stopover on the way to far-off destinations.

Who Doha suits

Doha will appeal to anyone who loves architecture and museums, calm waterfronts and Eastern markets without the bustle. It is a good option for families, couples and travellers who have already been to Dubai and want to see the Persian Gulf from another angle. Qatar is a Muslim country, so visitors from Uzbekistan rarely have any questions about food, prayer or local customs.

There is little nightlife in the usual sense; the entertainment is walks, restaurants, museums, the desert and hotel beaches. More about the country on our Qatar page.

When to go

The season runs from November to March: warm days and pleasant evenings, and in December and January it can even be cool and windy. This is also the time for festivals and events in the city.

April and October are shoulder months and already hot. From May to September the heat and humidity are intense and walking outside in the daytime is impossible, but hotels often run summer deals. During Ramadan, restaurant and museum hours change.

Where to stay

West Bay

The skyscraper district on the northern shore of the bay. International chain hotels, malls and views of the Corniche. Convenient for a business trip or a first visit.

Msheireb and the centre

A neighbourhood of new architecture next to Souq Waqif. From here you can walk to the market, the Corniche and the museums. An atmospheric choice for those who want to stroll in the evenings.

The Pearl and Lusail

An artificial island with a marina, restaurants and apart-hotels. Lusail is a new city with a waterfront and boulevards. Calm and modern, good for families.

Resort hotels on the coast

Hotels with private beaches outside the centre. For those combining the city with time by the sea.

What to see

  • Museum of Islamic Art. A building on its own island and a collection of manuscripts, ceramics, textiles and metalwork from across the Islamic world and its eras, including Central Asia.
  • National Museum of Qatar. Architecture inspired by the “desert rose” and the story of the country’s history.
  • Souq Waqif. A restored market with spices, fabrics, falcons and evening cafes. The falcon hospital is next door.
  • The Corniche. A waterfront several kilometres long along the bay, with views of West Bay.
  • Katara Cultural Village. An amphitheatre, mosques, galleries and a beach.
  • The Pearl. A walk around the marina and dinner by the water.
  • Desert safari. A jeep ride across the dunes to the Inland Sea (Khor Al Adaid) on the border with Saudi Arabia.

How many days to plan

  • 2–3 days: a stopover with museums, the market and a safari.
  • 4–6 days: the city plus a beach hotel.
  • A week or more: Doha combined with Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

Good to know

Modest clothing is expected in public places: shoulders and knees covered, especially in museums and at the market. Swimwear is fine on hotel beaches.

Getting around is easy with taxi apps, and there is a modern metro. Alcohol is sold only in certain hotels.

Flights from Tashkent: our manager will find direct and connecting options. Qatar’s entry rules have changed in recent years. Rules are given as of October 2026 and may change: check with our manager or the official embassy website before you travel.

Qatar with kids

Doha has plenty of indoor fun for families: indoor amusement parks in the malls, an aquarium, a children’s museum and abra boat rides along the waterfront. In winter, beach picnics and camel rides in the desert are popular. Dune bashing doesn’t always suit small children because of the bumps, so check the format with the organiser. Many resort hotels have kids’ clubs, which is handy for parents who want to visit a museum on their own.
