Best Time to Visit the UAE

The Emirates never have bad weather for the beach, but there are months when walking around outside is almost impossible. Here is how to choose your dates for the beach, shopping and sightseeing.

highlights

  1. IThe most comfortable period is roughly late October to April
  2. IISummer is very hot: you spend your time between the hotel, the sea and malls
  3. IIIDecember–January is peak demand because of the New Year holidays
  4. IVDuring Ramadan the country follows a special rhythm, so plan for it
  5. VNovember and March suit both the beach and sightseeing

The UAE is one of the most popular destinations from Tashkent for a short beach break, especially in the cold months. The main factor here isn’t rain but heat: it decides whether you can walk around the city or will only move between air-conditioned spaces.

High season: late October to April

This is what people go to the Emirates for. Days are warm and sunny, the sea is good for swimming, and in the evening you can stroll along the waterfronts and through parks. Excursions, a desert safari and a trip from Dubai to Abu Dhabi are all comfortable.

November

The heat eases and the water is still warm after summer. A good month for a family holiday and a first visit to the country. Prices are usually lower than over New Year.

December and January

The coolest months, but for people from Uzbekistan the weather is still warm. Over the New Year holidays hotel demand is at its highest, so book early. The water is cooler at this time, and many people swim in the hotels’ heated pools.

February and March

The weather is mild and the sea gradually warms up. These months are great for combining the beach, sightseeing and shopping. March is often considered one of the best months for an active program.

April

It gets noticeably warmer, especially towards the end of the month. Great for the beach, already a bit hot for long daytime walks.

Shoulder season and summer: May to September

From May the temperature rises fast, and July and August are the hottest months, with high humidity on the coast. A holiday is possible at this time but looks different: the beach in the morning, the hotel or a mall in the afternoon, a walk in the evening. Hotels often offer better deals in the summer months, so summer is chosen by those who go mainly for the hotel and shopping.

If you’re planning a summer trip, look for a hotel with its own beach and a good pool, close to the metro or malls so you don’t have to walk in the heat.

Ramadan and holidays

The dates of Ramadan shift every year because they follow the lunar calendar. During this month, eating, drinking and smoking in public during daylight hours is not done, and some cafés keep special hours. For tourists, hotels and most venues stay open, and many people enjoy the evening iftars and festive atmosphere. The main thing is to respect local rules and dress more modestly.

Ramadan is followed by the Eid al-Fitr holiday, when the number of travelers from neighboring countries rises and hotels fill up.

Which months for which purpose

  • Beach with children: November, March, April. More tips in our guide to a family holiday in the UAE.
  • Shopping and sales: plan around the seasonal sales and festivals, whose dates are announced in advance. More in our guide to shopping in Dubai.
  • New Year by a warm sea: late December, but it’s best to book several months ahead.
  • A budget trip: summer or early May, if you’re ready for the heat.

How many days to plan

For a first trip, 5–7 nights is usually enough. That’s enough to relax by the sea, see the main sights of Dubai and take a day trip to Abu Dhabi. If you want to add a quiet beach stay in Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah, plan 8–10 nights.

There are several flight options from Tashkent to the UAE: a manager will find direct and connecting flights for your dates. Citizens of Uzbekistan need to get a visa in advance; we describe the procedure in a separate guide.

Weather in the different emirates

The climate is similar across all the emirates, but there are nuances. On the Persian Gulf coast, home to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah, humidity is higher in summer. Fujairah, on the Gulf of Oman, is surrounded by mountains and can be a little fresher. In winter, the mountain areas of Ras Al Khaimah can be cool at night, so keep that in mind if you’re planning an excursion there.

FAQ

What is the best month for a trip to Dubai?

Many people choose November, February and March: it's warm, the sea is pleasant and you can walk around during the day. December and January are also good, but that's the busiest period.

Can I go to the UAE in summer?

You can, if you're happy to spend most of your time at the hotel, on the beach early in the morning and in the evening, and in shopping malls. It's very hot outside during the day, and long walks or outdoor excursions are hard going at that time.

Is it cold in the UAE in winter?

No, the days are usually warm, but the water and evenings are cooler than in autumn. Take a sweater for evening walks and a desert safari.

Does Ramadan affect a holiday in the Emirates?

Yes, during daylight hours there are restrictions on eating and drinking in public, and some places change their hours. Tourist life carries on, but local customs should be respected.
