Pre-Flight Checklist

Most travel problems start at home: a forgotten booking, an expired passport, an extra kilo in the suitcase. Here is what to check a week before and the day before your flight.

highlights

  1. IDocuments and entry rules: check a few weeks ahead
  2. IIBaggage and carry-on allowance: check your own ticket
  3. IIITransfer and hotel address: save them offline
  4. IVInsurance: print the policy and the assistance number
  5. VInternet and payment methods: sort them out before you fly

Even experienced travelers forget things. This checklist helps you go through the essentials calmly and without rushing. Open it a week before the trip, then once more the day before you fly.

Rules are given as of October 2026 and may change: check with our manager or the official embassy website before you travel.

1. Documents and entry rules

  • International passport. Check the expiry date: many countries require the passport to stay valid for a certain period after your return, and to have blank pages.
  • Visa. If you need one: have you received it, does it match your passport, are the dates and number of entries correct? If you are not sure whether you need a visa, see our guide on how to find out if you need a visa.
  • Online forms. Some countries ask you to fill in an online arrival form before departure.
  • Documents for children. If a child is not traveling with both parents, check which documents are needed to leave the country.
  • Transit. If you have a connection, check whether you need a transit visa.

Take photos of all your documents and save them both in the cloud and on your phone.

2. Tickets and baggage

  • Check the departure time, flight number and terminal: schedules sometimes change.
  • Find out the baggage and carry-on allowance for your specific ticket: it depends on the airline and fare. More details in our guide to carry-on baggage.
  • Weigh your suitcase at home.
  • Liquids in your carry-on go in small bottles inside a clear bag.
  • Medicines, documents, money and chargers belong in your carry-on, not in checked baggage.

3. Transfer

  • How will you get from the airport to the hotel: shared or private transfer, taxi, public transport?
  • Save the transfer company’s contacts and the meeting point.
  • If your flight lands at night, make sure the transfer is arranged for that time.

At night in an unfamiliar city, don’t look for a taxi at the airport exit: arrange a pickup in advance.

4. Insurance

  • The policy covers every traveler and all dates of the trip.
  • You have saved the assistance phone number: this is who you call if something happens.
  • Check that the risks you need are covered: active holidays, chronic conditions, trip cancellation.

More on choosing a policy in our guide to travel insurance.

5. Where you are staying

  • The full hotel name and address in the local language or in Latin script.
  • Your voucher or booking confirmation.
  • Check-in and check-out times. If you arrive early in the morning, your room may not be ready yet.
  • The address saved in offline maps.

Your accommodation address is often asked for at the border and on arrival forms, so keep it handy.

6. Internet

  • Is roaming switched on, and how much does it cost?
  • Either buy an eSIM in advance or find out where to buy a local SIM card.
  • Download offline maps and a translator app.
  • If you are going to a country where access to familiar services is restricted, prepare in advance.

All the options are covered in our guide to internet abroad.

7. Payment methods

  • Find out whether your cards are accepted at your destination and whether they work for payments abroad.
  • Take some cash in a currency that is easy to exchange locally.
  • Let your bank know about the trip if required.
  • Keep money in different places: some in your wallet, some in the hotel safe.

8. The day before departure

  • Check in online if the airline offers it.
  • Charge your phone and put the power bank in your carry-on.
  • Make sure your passport is in your bag.
  • Share your itinerary and hotel contacts with family.

If something goes wrong

Save your manager’s contacts. If your flight is delayed, the transfer doesn’t show up or there are check-in problems at the hotel, we are in touch and will help sort it out.

FAQ

How early should I get to the airport?

For an international flight, the usual advice is to arrive 2.5–3 hours before departure. Check-in closing time is shown on your ticket or on the airline's website.

Which documents should I take on the trip?

Your international passport, a visa (if required), flight tickets, hotel voucher or booking, insurance policy and transfer confirmation. For children, any documents required for them to travel abroad.

Do I need to print my documents?

It is best to have both digital and paper copies. A phone can run out of battery or get lost, and at the border it is sometimes easier to show a printout.

What should I do if I lose my passport abroad?

Get a report from the local police, then contact the Embassy or Consulate of Uzbekistan in that country to get a document for your return home. A copy of your passport makes the process much easier.
