Who Singapore is for

Singapore is chosen by families with children, couples and city lovers. It is clean and safe, and everything runs like clockwork: the metro, taxis and signs in English. Children get Universal Studios, the aquarium and a zoo with a Night Safari; adults get the food, the architecture and shopping on Orchard Road.

As a rule, Singapore isn’t the only goal of a trip. People add 3–4 days of it to a holiday in Bali, Malaysia or Thailand to mix the beach with the city.

Seasons: when to go

Singapore is hot and humid all year round, around 30 degrees during the day. There is no strict off-season, but there is more rain from November to January, and February to April are usually the driest months. Downpours are mostly short, and the sun comes out again afterwards.

Keep the holidays in mind: Chinese New Year in January or February and the Formula 1 race in autumn, when hotel prices rise. Evening walks are more pleasant here than daytime ones, as the heat eases.

Districts

Marina Bay

The centre of modern Singapore: the Marina Bay Sands hotel with its rooftop pool, Gardens by the Bay with the Supertrees and conservatories, the evening light show, and the waterfront with the Merlion statue.

Sentosa

An entertainment island with Universal Studios, an aquarium, Siloso and Palawan beaches and a cable car. With children, set aside a separate day for Sentosa or stay on the island.

Chinatown, Little India, Kampong Glam

Ethnic quarters with temples, the Sultan Mosque, shops and street food. This is where Singapore’s multicultural character shows best.

Orchard Road and Clarke Quay

Orchard Road is the main shopping street with dozens of malls. Clarke Quay is a waterfront with restaurants and bars.

Nature

The Botanic Gardens with the orchid garden, MacRitchie nature park with its suspension bridge, and Pulau Ubin island, where village life has survived.

What to see

  • Gardens by the Bay and the evening light show.
  • The Marina Bay Sands observation deck.
  • Hawker centres: Lau Pa Sat, Maxwell or Newton.
  • The Night Safari.
  • The Botanic Gardens and the orchid garden.

Where to stay and how to get around

Hotels in Marina Bay are expensive, but they offer the best views and are close to the main sights. Orchard Road is handy for shopping, while Chinatown and Bugis have more affordable accommodation with good transport. With children, people often choose a hotel on Sentosa so they can walk to the parks.

The MRT metro covers the whole city, and you can ride it with a bank card. Taxis and Grab are available too. Hawker centres are covered food courts serving laksa, chicken rice, satay and chilli crab. Many hawker centres have halal certification, which is convenient for Muslims.

How many days to plan

The city takes 3–4 days. A family trip with Sentosa and the zoo takes 4–5 days. A popular combination is 3–4 days in Singapore and a week in Bali or Malaysia, both a short flight away, and Malaysia can also be reached overland.

Entry and practical tips

Citizens of Uzbekistan should check Singapore’s entry procedure in advance: for some countries the visa is arranged only through authorised agents or a local sponsor. All travellers fill in an electronic arrival card before landing. If you are unsure whether you need a visa, see our guide on how to find out if you need a visa.

Singapore has strict laws: fines for littering, eating on the metro and smoking in non-designated areas. Bringing in chewing gum is restricted, and bringing in cigarettes without paying duty is fined.

Rules are given as of October 2026 and may change: check with our manager or the official embassy website before you travel.
