Who Malaysia is for

Malaysia is a favourite with families from Uzbekistan who care about halal food, mosques nearby and a calm atmosphere. It is safe, English is widely spoken, and the infrastructure in the capital and the resorts is modern. Couples come for the islands and the jungle, and city lovers for Kuala Lumpur and Penang.

Malaysia pairs well with its neighbours: Singapore is close by, and Bali and Thailand are an easy regional flight away.

Seasons: when to go

Malaysia is warm all year round, around 30 degrees, and the seasons are defined by the rains. The west coast and Langkawi have their driest weather from December to April. The east coast islands, Perhentian, Redang and Tioman, operate mainly from March to September; in winter the monsoon arrives and some hotels close.

Kuala Lumpur can be visited all year: downpours usually come in the afternoon and pass quickly. If you are looking for a warm sea in the colder months, compare Malaysia with other options in where to go for a winter beach holiday.

Regions

Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur is the capital, with the Petronas Towers, Batu Caves, the National Mosque, Chinatown and huge malls. Nearby are Putrajaya with the Pink Mosque and the cool Genting Highlands.

Langkawi

Langkawi is an archipelago in the north-west with the Cenang and Tanjung Rhu beaches, a cable car up to the Sky Bridge and mangrove forests. It is a duty-free zone, so shopping is popular too.

Penang

Penang Island has colonial George Town, street art and some of the best street food in Asia. It suits those who want to combine a city and the sea.

Malaysian Borneo

Sabah and Sarawak offer jungle, orangutan rehabilitation centres, Mount Kinabalu and diving off Sipadan Island. This region needs time of its own and a domestic flight.

The east coast islands

Perhentian, Redang and Tioman offer clear water and reefs. People come here in summer, and they make a good alternative to beaches that are in the rainy season at that time.

What to see

  • The Petronas Towers and KLCC Park in the evening.
  • Batu Caves with their staircase and golden statue.
  • The Pink Mosque in Putrajaya.
  • The street art and food courts of George Town.
  • The tea plantations of the Cameron Highlands.

Where to stay and how to get around

In Kuala Lumpur it is most convenient to stay in Bukit Bintang or near the Petronas Towers, with the metro, malls and restaurants close by. On Langkawi most hotels are by Cenang and Tengah beaches, while more secluded resorts are in the jungle in the north of the island.

In the city it is easy to get around by taxi through the Grab app, and between cities by ETS train, bus or domestic flight. Malaysian food is a mix of Malay, Chinese and Indian traditions: nasi lemak, satay, laksa, roti canai. Food courts are cheap and tasty, and halal places are marked with signs.

How many days to plan

A city and an island take 9–12 nights. Kuala Lumpur alone with trips around the area takes 4–5 days. If you want Borneo or the east coast islands, plan two weeks with domestic flights.

Entry and practical tips

Entry requirements for citizens of Uzbekistan depend on the current rules, so check them before every trip. Before flying to Malaysia you fill in an electronic arrival card; without it you may be held up at the border. Your passport needs plenty of validity left.

Mosques provide cover-up robes, but it is better to dress modestly from the start. For connectivity and SIM cards, read our guide to internet abroad.

Rules are given as of October 2026 and may change: check with our manager or the official embassy website before you travel.
