Umrah from Uzbekistan

Umrah is the lesser pilgrimage to Makkah, which can be performed at any time of year except during the Hajj days. Here we cover the practical side of the trip: documents, timing, accommodation and preparation.

  3. IIIThe trip is usually combined with a visit to Madinah
  4. IVThe month of Ramadan is the most sought-after time, so book early
  5. VFor religious questions about the rites, it's best to consult an imam

For many families in Uzbekistan, Umrah is one of the most important journeys of their lives. They prepare for it well in advance and often travel with their parents or the whole family. Our role as a travel agency is to take care of the practical side: flights, accommodation, documents and transfers, so that the pilgrim can focus on what matters most.

We do not give religious guidance. For questions about performing the rites, the intention (niyyah) and the rules of ihram, we recommend consulting an imam or a knowledgeable person in your mahalla.

Rules are given as of October 2026 and may change: check with our manager or the official embassy website before you travel.

When to Go

Umrah can be performed at any time of year, except during the Hajj period, when entry for Umrah is restricted. The month of Ramadan is the most revered and the most sought-after time: Makkah and Madinah are filled with pilgrims, and hotel rooms near the mosques are booked far in advance.

The climate is also worth considering. Summers in Makkah and Madinah are very hot, which matters for elderly pilgrims. The winter months are milder. More about the cities on the Makkah and Madinah page.

Documents and Entry

Entry procedures for pilgrims are set by Saudi Arabia, and they have changed in recent years, with new visa types and online services introduced. You will usually need:

  • a passport with sufficient validity;
  • a visa that permits Umrah;
  • medical insurance;
  • in some cases, proof of vaccinations, with requirements set by the Saudi authorities.

Visiting certain places and some acts of worship, such as praying in the Rawdah at the Prophet’s Mosque, may require advance booking through the official app. The rules for women travelling and for group composition have also been revised. Our manager will tell you the current procedure for your dates.

Makkah and Madinah

Most often the trip is arranged like this: a few days in Madinah, then the journey to Makkah to perform Umrah and stay there. Or the other way round: Makkah first, then Madinah. The two cities are linked by high-speed rail and by road.

Choosing a Hotel

The main criterion is the distance to the mosque. Hotels within walking distance cost more but save energy, especially for elderly pilgrims and in the hot season. Also important:

  • lifts and easy access;
  • the meal plan, breakfast only or half board;
  • the option for the family to stay in one room or adjoining rooms.

Flights

There are direct and connecting flights from Tashkent to Saudi Arabia, depending on the season and date. You can fly into Jeddah or Madinah. Our manager will find options with elderly travellers’ comfort in mind.

What to Pack

  • ihram garments (for men) and modest, loose clothing (for women);
  • comfortable footwear, as you’ll walk a great deal;
  • enough of your personal medicines;
  • a small shoulder bag for documents;
  • a sun umbrella and a water bottle.

For general packing tips, see our guide on how to pack a suitcase.

Health

The Umrah rites involve long periods of walking, and the mosques can be very crowded. Consult a doctor before the trip, especially if you’re travelling with elderly relatives. Be sure to take out medical insurance and bring medical records for any chronic conditions.

How We Help

We arrange flights, hotels near the mosques in Makkah and Madinah, and transfers between the cities and the airport, help with documents and explain the current entry rules. If you’re travelling as a large family or group, we organise the trip around your party.

Travelling with Family or a Group

Many people go on Umrah with their parents, spouse or extended family. In that case it’s important to agree on accommodation in advance, so everyone stays in the same hotel and close together, and to plan a pace that suits the health of the elders.
