In recent years China has been actively changing its visa rules, expanding visa-free and transit programmes. Here's how to check what applies to citizens of Uzbekistan and how the visa process works.

highlights
China is a nearby and remarkably varied destination: imperial Beijing, modern Shanghai, the beaches of tropical Sanya. Interest in travel there is growing, and China has been making entry easier for tourists from many countries. But the rules change quickly, so it’s important to check them before your trip rather than rely on a friend’s experience from a year ago.
Rules are given as of October 2026 and may change: check with our manager or the official embassy website before you travel.
China uses several mechanisms for simplified entry: bilateral visa-free agreements, unilateral visa-free entry for certain countries for a limited period, and visa-free transit programmes. Each has its own list of countries, validity period and conditions.
For citizens of Uzbekistan, the rules need to be checked for your specific travel dates. We do this when pricing every tour and let you know whether you need a visa and how to apply for it.
If a visa is required, tourists apply for an L visa. It can be single, double or multiple entry. The visa type and length of stay are shown on the visa; it’s important not to confuse the visa’s validity with the number of days you can spend in the country per visit.
Documents are submitted through the consular section of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Tashkent, following the procedure it sets. Part of the application form is completed online, and fingerprints may be taken when you apply. Check the appointment procedure and submission method with our manager before preparing your documents.
In general, the documents for a tourist visa include:
The Chinese visa form is quite detailed, asking about your family, education, work and previous travel. Fill it in carefully and truthfully, as any inconsistencies with your other documents raise questions.
For passengers flying through China to a third country, there are visa-free transit programmes for a limited period. They apply only to citizens of certain countries, only through certain airports and only with a confirmed onward ticket to a third country. Don’t plan your route around visa-free transit until you’ve checked that the programme applies to you.
In China many familiar apps and services work only partially, and payments are made almost everywhere through local mobile wallets. Sort out connectivity and payment methods in advance; more in our guide on mobile internet abroad. Download offline maps and a translator that works without your usual services before you go.
For a first trip, people often choose a combination of Beijing and Shanghai over 8–10 days, and tropical Sanya for a beach holiday. Flights from Tashkent to China are available both direct and with connections, and our manager will find the options.
A separate application form is completed for every traveller, including children. Separate fingerprinting rules may apply to older travellers. If a child is travelling with one parent, check which documents are needed to leave Uzbekistan and for the visa. Our manager will go through all these details with you during preparation.
Business trips, trade fairs and negotiations require a separate visa category, usually with an invitation from a Chinese company. A tourist visa is not suitable for these purposes. If you’re combining a business trip with a holiday, check with our manager which visa to apply for.

It depends on the rules in force on your travel dates: in recent years China has revised its list of countries with visa-free entry. Check the current rules for citizens of Uzbekistan with our manager or on the official website of the Chinese Embassy.
For a tourist trip, an L visa is usually issued. Other categories are for business trips, study, work and visiting relatives.
China offers visa-free transit to citizens of a number of countries, subject to conditions on the route and length of stay. Whether this programme covers citizens of Uzbekistan needs to be checked for your travel dates.
Usually an application form, passport, photo, flight and hotel bookings or an invitation. The exact list is set by the embassy and is best checked before you apply.

In China you can see the Great Wall, futuristic Shanghai and the tropical sea of Hainan in one trip. A destination for sightseeing, shopping and business travel.

Beijing means the Forbidden City, temples, hutongs and the Great Wall a couple of hours away. It is a city for sightseeing, where it pays to plan your days well and sort out internet access and payments in advance.

Shanghai is China's most modern and cosmopolitan city. People come for the skyscraper views, shopping, food and walks through old quarters lined with European-style mansions.

Sanya is China's main beach resort, in the south of Hainan Island. It offers a warm sea in winter, bays lined with international chain hotels and large-scale duty-free shopping.
