Who China is for

China appeals to those who love big cities, history and food. Many people from Uzbekistan travel here on business, to trade fairs and factories, and combine work with sightseeing. Families with children choose Shanghai Disneyland and the beaches of Hainan, while couples head to nature parks such as Zhangjiajie and Guilin.

It is worth knowing that China takes preparation: it has its own payment and messaging apps, few people speak English, and the distances are huge. But with a well-planned route, the trip is incredibly rich.

Seasons: when to go

The best time for sightseeing is spring and autumn: April to May and September to October. Summer is hot and humid, especially in Shanghai and the south. Winter in Beijing is cold and dry, but there are fewer tourists on the Great Wall.

Keep the national holidays in mind: Chinese New Year in January or February and Golden Week in early October. Millions of people travel within the country on these dates, and tickets and hotels get more expensive. Sanya on Hainan is a winter destination, with the season running from November to April.

Cities and regions

Beijing

Beijing offers the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace and the hutongs. The Great Wall is easiest to see at Mutianyu or Badaling, and Mutianyu is usually quieter.

Shanghai

Shanghai has the Bund with views of the Pudong skyscrapers, Yu Garden, the former French Concession and Disneyland. Nearby are water towns such as Zhujiajiao and the cities of Suzhou and Hangzhou.

Sanya and Hainan

Sanya is a tropical resort in the south of Hainan Island with Yalong Bay, Dadonghai and Haitang Bay, large hotels and a big duty-free.

Nature in the south and west

Guilin and Yangshuo with their karst mountains and the Li River, Zhangjiajie with its “Avatar” rocks, and Xi’an with the Terracotta Army. These places are linked by high-speed trains and domestic flights.

What to see

  • The Great Wall at Mutianyu.
  • The Terracotta Army in Xi’an.
  • The Bund in Shanghai in the evening.
  • A Li River cruise from Guilin.
  • The glass bridge and trails of Zhangjiajie.

Food and practical details

Chinese food differs in every region: Peking duck, xiaolongbao in Shanghai, spicy Sichuan cuisine and seafood on Hainan. For Muslims there are halal restaurants serving Uyghur and Hui food, found in almost every big city.

Language is an important practical detail. Hotel and tourist-site staff speak English, but in taxis, restaurants and shops a translator app with a camera function will save you. High-speed train stations are outside the centre, and you need to allow time for document checks when boarding.

How many days to plan

Beijing and Shanghai together take 7–8 days, with the high-speed train between them taking about five hours. A route with Xi’an or Guilin takes 10–12 days. A beach holiday in Sanya takes 7–10 nights, and you can add a couple of days in Shanghai or Beijing.

Entry and practical tips

Entry rules for citizens of Uzbekistan have changed in recent years, so check them before every trip; details are in our guide to the China visa for citizens of Uzbekistan. Conditions for business trips and long stays may differ from those for tourists.

Install Alipay or WeChat Pay in advance and link your card, and download a translator and offline maps. Sort out a SIM card or eSIM beforehand and check which services will work through it.

Big cities have lots of cameras and ID checks: carry your passport with you, as you’ll need it both to buy train tickets and to enter some attractions. Tickets for the Forbidden City and popular museums are sold online linked to your passport and sell out several days ahead, especially during holidays.

Rules are given as of October 2026 and may change: check with our manager or the official embassy website before you travel.
